7 stages on horseback from Trabadelo

Horseback Camino de Santiago from Trabadelo

First day of our horseback pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. We will meet all participants at the agreed place and time and transfer to the accommodation for the first night. After dinner we will hold a short briefing where we will explain the itinerary and answer any questions.

French Way from Trabadelo

From Trabadelo, the stage just before reaching O Cebreiro, we are only 182 km from Santiago de Compostela. The terrain is rich in forest, so we will enjoy frequent shaded areas – a welcome contrast to the barren Castilian plains that pilgrims have to cross in previous stages.

Trabadelo – O Cebreiro

Early morning ascent following the Valcarce river up to the mountain village of O Cebreiro, the official entrance to Galicia.

We will pass through Ambasvías, Vega de Valcarce, the impressive Castle of Sarracín, Herrerías, La Faba and Laguna de Castilla (end of León). At O Cebreiro (1,300 m), we are greeted by the characteristic pallozas – ancient oval-shaped Celtic houses.

O Cebreiro – Samos

We ride towards the ancient Monastery of Samos, one of the oldest and best-preserved in the Western world.

After breakfast and visiting the Pilgrim Monument and the Sanctuary of Santa María Real de O Cebreiro, we head to Hospital da Condesa and have lunch in Triacastela, surrounded by numerous Celtic hillforts (castros).

Samos – Portomarín

First sight of the river Miño, Galicia’s most famous river.

Portomarín was completely relocated in the 1960s to make way for the Belesar reservoir.

Portomarín – Palas de Rei

Lunch stop in Ventas de Narón, then continue to Palas de Rei.

Palas de Rei – Arzúa

Lunch in Melide (convergence point of several Camino routes).

Overnight in Arzúa, famous for its Tetilla cheese.

Arzúa – Monte do Gozo

Last full riding day through gentle paths covered with pine and eucalyptus forests.

We arrive at Monte do Gozo, from where we get the first glimpse of Santiago Cathedral.

Monte do Gozo – Santiago de Compostela Cathedral

Short final ride into the old town of Santiago and arrival at the Cathedral.

We stamp our pilgrim credentials and receive the Compostela certificate – the final testimony of our adventure.
